Daniel does more than play the drums for ShapeShifter. He’s Mitchell’s public antithesis: where Mitchell can be a jerk to the media, Daniel is always accessible and charming. He’d be the band’s pin-up boy, except he’s hidden behind a drumset and it’s Mitchell who’s the frontman.
Thus, they share the pin-up duties, just as they share the bulk of the business of the band. Daniel’s invaluable in other ways, too: he built the band’s practice space in his back yard, and then later added a pool, which became one of Mitchell’s favorite hang-outs.
In his long-time girlfriend Val, Daniel took refuge from his parents’ horrid post-divorce treatment of each other. Somehow, they’ve stayed together since they were fourteen, always taking it a day at a time, never pressing forward too hard.
Daniel’s addicted to the news. He tries to keep up on what’s happening in the world; he’s the political voice behind many of ShapeShifter’s more controversial lyrics and themes.
