Hmm. I have serious and silly for you. I think we’ll start with silly.

I found this flow chart, thanks to either Blabbermouth, Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles, or the dudes at Metal Sucks. Don’t remember who and it doesn’t really matter. If you’ve ever wanted to name a heavy metal band (which I do on a regular basis, come to think of it), you NEED this chart.

Check it out.

Kudos to the creative minds behind that.

And kudos to the creative and caring minds behind this, the serious part: The Humane Society in Oshawa, Ontario (that’s Canada for you who might be geographically challenged) burned down last month. One hundred forty animals were killed. The music community is coming together to put on a benefit concert on January 17, so that the shelter can rebuild.

So much for musicians being nothing but uncaring, self-centered jerks.

Read the press release I saw here. It’s the only info I can find; if you hear anything else, let me know. And go here to see the shelter the next morning. Early reports are that the fire was started when mice chewed through electrical wires.

One more thing I’ve found, which is neither serious nor silly. It’s fascinating. Ready? Back around 1990, I discovered this band called The Dan Reed Network. I loved them. I own all three of their albums. And then … they vanished (like many bands do.)

Check out THIS article in BraveWords. I can’t see myself creating a character like the man Dan Reed has become, but he sure has had a cool life.

That shelter burning down was horrible. Those poor animals. I think it’s great how the music community is pulling together to help the shelter. We all have a soft spot for animals.

Love the chart. If you’re naming a band you have to know what your options are to do it right.

Sad to hear about all those animals. The cats should have taken care of the mice before they got that far. I had a friend who had a house rabbit that would chew through electrical wires and eat guitar strings.

LOL about the chart! I wish I’d had it when I was working on Maelstrom.

I read about that shelter fire and was horrified. I’m glad to see there will be a benefit to rebuild. Poor critters. It’s sad enough when no one cares, but when people are trying to do the right thing (like take them to a shelter) and something tragic happens anyway, it’s even more distressing.

Maelstrom will be doing a bunny benefit as we get closer to Easter. Does a band have to be real in order to get their “big badass animal-lover” creds? They may be fictional, but the fund-raising will be real. Yay, bunnies!

Wow! What a cool guy. His music must be interesting! I wish he were coming to Ohio!

Awww. That’s terrible about the animals. That’s nice of the music community to pull together for something like that.

I’d name my heavy metal group:
    “When Hell Freezes Over”

It’s great seeing the music community come together to help that shelter become operational again. It’s absolutely tragic that it happened but to see the good in people and how they help in time of need is wonderful.

It’s sad to hear about the animals. I’m glad they’re rebuilding. Our little dog came from the Humane Society. They do a great job with unwanted animals.

I’m not worthy! I’m not worthy! Cool shit indeed. I love the flow chart 🙂

I was so sad to hear about the shelter. I hope the money to rebuild it is raised soon.

Just taking a moment out of my napping schedule to say hi. I am healing nicely but I’m so sleepy! Thanks for all your kind comments. I appreciate them 🙂

That’s sad about the animals and I hope the benefit raises all the funds needed to rebuild.

The band chart was fun. While it is unlikely to surface in my life, it was fun to imagine.

How awful about the animal shelter. The shelters do so much good work. I hope the fundraiser goes well.

That’s wonderful what the music community is doing for the shelter. And that band chart is a hoot! 🙂

Dan Reed sounds like a fascinating man.
