Thursday Thirteen #31 — Summertime, summertime, sum, sum, Summertime!

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail
Thirteen things ShapeShifter loves to do in the summer:

1. Tour.

2. Play those day-long festivals that are popular.

3. Hang out with the other bands playing the day-long festivals.

4. Find someone in charge who can cough up a grill and some dogs, burgers, and bird. (Bodacious Sauce is a plus but not a requirement) And beer. Don’t forget the beer. That is a requirement.

5. Jam with the cooler members of the bands playing the day-long festivals.

6. Learn the music of the cooler bands.

7. Wear the t-shirts of the cooler bands during the ShapeShifter set. Pimp the
bands from the stage.

8. Storm the stage when said cooler bands are on.

9. Invite them to do the same.

10. When boredom sets in, swap out band members without telling the crowd what’s happening. Make like it’s normal for Howard the Hammer to play in Bitterness.

11. When crowd starts to expect that, stop doing it.

12. Throw new songs — written during the above-mentioned jam sessions — into the concert set. Watch crowd react.

13. Lather, rinse, repeat until fall and time to head into the studio to record a new album.

By the way, that’s not ShapeShifter in the header picture; please don’t confuse my fictional band for a real one!

Ummm… someone who played the Warp Tour last year, I think. Not sure who, though. But they’re cool; they take the stage in shorts.

“cooler bands”??? It’s the cooler of the bands that are there, right? Not bands cooler than ShapeShifter–that’s not possible, is it? 😉

  38. Sophisticated Writer

    May 31, 2007 11:03 am

I’ve been to a few summer concerts but they are always fun 🙂 Summer is here already, yay!

“Jam with the cooler members of the bands playing the day-long festivals.”BR/BR/That sounds very musician-like! That’s when you know the hard work doesn’t feel so hard to them, because they love it so much, they’re doing it on their time off.

    May 31, 2007 3:12 pm

Thant should keep them busy for the summer and if they end up bogged in at festival a by a sudden downpour somewhat longer unless they’ve reached the private helicopter to and from the gig stage…

  45. May

    May 31, 2007 4:33 pm

Sounds like lots of chilled beer is required.

  46. Heather Rae Scott

This is something I could really get into. So glad you stopped by today–great list!

  47. Sparky Duck

    May 31, 2007 5:30 pm

So, is Shapeshifter a fan of other contemporary bands. The reason I ask is because I heard an Amy Lee interview last week and she was excited to see Velvet Revolver at one of these festivals

  48. Susan Helene Gottfried

    May 31, 2007 5:31 pm

Absolutely!BR/BR/And for the record, I’d be excited to see Velvet Revolver. And Evanescence, despite the recent upheavals.

  49. Cheryl

    May 31, 2007 5:59 pm

I always love reading your character descriptions. Now if only I can get off my butt and write myself. (I’ve been saying that forever, haven’t I?!)

  50. Starla

    May 31, 2007 6:26 pm

Susan; BR/BR/I think Shapeshifter should definitely consider playing SXSW in Austin next year. It totally seems like their kind of scene.

  56. Joy Renee

    June 1, 2007 3:31 am

That’s a job? Sounds like ‘Party for a livin’ should be their moto.BR/BR/I played that silly Google game for my TT this week. 13 things Google thinks Joy needs

Wow..Summer plans! I live in a place where there are only two seasons- Rainy and Sunny. So the only plan I make is to bring an umbrella or not to bring an umbrella. BR/Happy Belated Thursday!

My favorite thing to do during the summer is wake up and do whatever I feel like. It is a wonderful feeling.

  59. Haley-O

    June 1, 2007 3:44 pm

Day long festivals — reminds me of my university years…. Ahhhh. 😉

  60. OldOldLady Of The Hills

    June 1, 2007 5:28 pm

Michele sent me today….So, this is a completely fictional band playing in completely fictional Summeer Festivals?BR/BR/Cool!

  61. Susan Helene Gottfried

    June 1, 2007 5:30 pm

Not only playing fictional summer concerts, but among a fictional lineup, too. BR/BR/You groupies are really expanding my vision, and for that, I’m more grateful than you can know.

  62. PJ

    June 1, 2007 9:23 pm

Shapeshifter? Reminds me of DriveSHAFT, Charlie’s band in ILost/I.

  63. Marcia (MeeAugraphie)

    June 2, 2007 2:38 am

This was a fun one. My brother loves to jam. I loved all the ways to cause confusion among fans. Jenny McB mentioned Woodstock, I missed it, both times, so it would be really cool to get to be a part of it Ithis time./IBR/BR/I had the feed messed up from your blog, so I just kept skipping over it in my rush. Somehow I had linked to just ONE post, not sure how I did that. . . but I fixed it.

  64. kristarella

    June 2, 2007 2:41 am

Heh, fun. For some reason this reminds me of a movie called Sweetwater – about a band called Sweetwater who “opened” Woodstock. I think they were maybe the first band to play, not the first artist though.BR/It’s be cool if you could put some music to your fictional band. You know in Buffy how they have the band Dingoes Ate My Baby? All their songs were actually done by Four Star Mary – maybe you could get a band to be Shapeshifter?

  65. Andrew

    June 2, 2007 3:02 pm

Simply put, the entire band has fun messing with the audience and other bands during the summer!BR/BR/ Is it Trevor who originally thought of all those ideas? 😉

  66. Susan Helene Gottfried

    June 2, 2007 5:13 pm

Believe it or not, a lot of it came from Mitchell. That whole obsession with music and all… he didn’t think much about it.BR/BR/Yeah, it was Trevor who suggested they swap out band members, though. Band members’ groupies, too — naturally.

  67. Jill

    June 2, 2007 8:05 pm

I cannot wait for all those festival to kick in… Lot of fun!!
