Thursday Thirteen: Oracle

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

1. My Sunday Scribblings this week was the story of Mitchell being allowed a chance to play the famed Oracle guitar. From the scant comments, most of you missed a doozy.

2. The Oracle used to belong to Soul Bendorff.

3. Read more about Soul here.

4. Like his dark blue suede vests, the Oracle was his trademark.

5. He set one on fire every night, at the end of every set.

6. He used that guitar to redefine music.

7. The magic Soul created was part of what made Mitchell pick up the guitar in the first place.

8. The Oracle disappeared for many years after Soul’s death.

9. It finally reappeared at a Christie’s Auction.

10. It sold that first time for $300,000 or so.

11. The MBA developer-cum-memorabilia-collector named Jeff bought it for more than that. But less than it’s currently valued at.

12. Which makes me wonder why he’s offering to give it to Mitchell. But he is. It’s a sincere offer.

13. Just more of the magic of music.

Never trust a guitar that disappears and then reappears on its own.

You can’t go wrong with a magical guitar, especially in Mitchell’s hands. 😀

    P.S. I’m back from vacation.

Very cool list, Susan. Loved how Mitchell got to play the Oracle (and I do know where the Oracle was- but if I told you I’d have to kill you 🙂 ).

    How dream-come-true for Mitchell!

By the way, I applaud your reply to the 2009 male list of best writers. I’d join in – but I don’t read enough. I know, I know – I do all those book reviews. After NaNo, maybe…

Magic Guitars are the stuff of my dreams in the sixties – too many nights of Purple Haze and a crush on Jim Morrison, lol.

    Magic of music: oh, yes!

I’m sorry I haven’t visited as often — I still love ya. Time’s been getting away from me something fierce, and I have to wonder if participation in NaNoWriMo causes time compression. 😉

Wow, really? He’s offering to GIVE it to Mitchell? But what is money but hours and hours of toil, a mere representation of the illusion we call time — time we feel is so fleeting but we actually have an infinite supply of??

I picked up my guitar the other day but didn’t really feel like playing it. What, if anything, could be wrong with me?

No songs are making me happy today. I just wanted to stay in bed with a big pumpkin pie and a can of Reddiwhip, but I had to go driving in the rain to get something notarized.

    I haven’t had a haircut in 6 months.

Still, there is good in all situations and I may indeed find a song to please me in the next 30 minutes on my drive to fetch my angel daughter.

    Cheerio!
