Booking Through Thursday featuring a special guest

Today’s special guest blog writer is (drum roll, please) . . .

The Tour Manager!

So, the star of W-o-M shows me this Booking Through Thursday
thing (here)
and asks if I’d like to write a blog entry. I figure, “Why not?”

To the question at hand, do I cheat and look at the end of a book
or read it like the author intended? I don’t cheat, well, not in my
mind. If I stick with a book, then I read it beginning to end. Now,
if I decide mid-way through the book that it’s a load of dren
(as they’d say on Farscape), then I’ll sometimes scan the ending
before flinging the book on the “Give to Susan to trade” pile.
I do read the teasers or whatever you call them on the dust cover
flaps or on the back cover.

Am I tempted to cheat? Maybe once in a long while, but again, usually
when I’m thinking “where the !@#$!#@ is this heading” which often
results in the “load of dren” declaration.

Phew. There you go. A peek into the mind of The Tour Manager.
Hopefully you survived with your sanity intact.

Sounds spot on to me, Tour Manager. I’m also an occasional sneaky forward peeker when the tale starts to drag a bit.BR/BR/Psst, Susan, he did all right: came across as sure, succinct and sexy 🙂

ROFL. BW (or before writing) I would slog my way through even if I knew who did it on page one or the writing was so bad it made me wince. Don’t ask me why. Now that I write, my reading time is squeezed. The tour manageris better than I am. If it’s drek, I toss it in the give to the library pile. I don’t waste time anymore. Funny, I never thought to jump to the end. Maybe I’ll try that next time. 😉

I’m a cheater too, sometimes. The book has to really be irritating me to make me flip to the end. Then if I feel like I don’t know what happened I’ll go back to where I began and read it to finish. If I don’t get that feeling the book is tossed.

I never peek. It feels like breaking the rules to me and my good girl ideals just don’t allow for that.

Interesting site, my first time here and I bring along Michele’s good wishes.BR/BR/Do I turn to the end of the book first? Depends. I’ll like to say no, and I generally don’t with fiction. But with non-fiction, especially in a field I know a bit about, I read the notes at the end and to see what sources the author uses. That sound pretentious, doesn’t it.

I would never read the end first, but have been known to give up on a best seller. ‘The Da Vinci Code’ leaps to mind.BR/Age has taught me it’s OK to give up on a book ir I’m bored. Life’s too short!BR/Michele says hi!
