So the Teen Girl continues to read voraciously and has discovered a new love: The late Tudor period, extending into the Stewart period, says my good friend Marie Burton at Burton Book Review. Of all the bloggers and readers I know, Marie knows historical fiction the best, so when I told her what The Teen Girl was reading, she helped me hone in on that period.
But … Marie’s an adult and the Teen Girl is… well, she’s not officially a teen yet. She’s still a pre-teen.
That means Marie doesn’t know the YA historical fiction world as well as the Teen Girl would like her to. Meaning: intimately, inside-out, AND completely, all rolled into one ball of knowledge.
Have you read anything from this time period? Got any titles to recommend? Written any?
Bring ’em on.
And yes, I hope to encourage Teen Girl and Teen Boy to get off the Minecraft and get back to blogging. I miss them around these parts. Hope you do, too.

Phillipa Gregory has just started a new YA series about that period, but it takes place in Italy. If it wasn’t for some racy moments in The Other Boleyn Girl, I would recommend that. — Who knows, she may be ready for that. Alison Weir takes facts and makes them interesting but again, those are adult book, with no racy moments. Here is a list for you from Rebecca’s book blog: http://rebeccasbookblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/march-2010-historical-fiction-feature.html

When I was in junior high school, i started reading books by Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleanor_Hibbert
Don’t know if any of Eleanor HIbbert (aka Victoria Holt) would fit what you are looking for.

Maybe not quite the right era, but I’d recommend Jennifer McGowan’s MAIDS OF HONOR series. It’s YA Elizabethan Spy Girls. The first one is MAID OF SECRETS — http://www.jennifermcgowan.com/

The best authors for this genre have been mentioned. I still remember (even through this swiss cheese memory) my first royal book that I read when I was just a bit older than your daughter ~ The Red Haired Brat. My daughter loved the scholastic series on Princesses. It does cover more than this time period however they’re wonderful
